Inga Barks to be Keynote Speaker at 2010 Lincoln Day Dinner (See Details Below)
NOTICE: Madera County Republican Central Committee Central Committee Members/Regular Elected Members Instructions for Filing for Election in the June 8, 2010 Primary Election For the 2011-2012 Term
Central Committee Members (Regular Elected Members) serve two-year terms which coincide with our State Assemblymen/women. The reason you rarely see Central Committee Members on the ballot is because, generally, the number of Member Candidates running in each supervisorial district is equal to or fewer than the number designated for that district (6 in District One, 4, in District Two, 3 in District Three, 1 in District Four, and 7 in District Five.) and, therefore, no election by vote is necessary. In this case, the process is quite simple requiring only the completion of Form 470, Candidate Campaign Statement, Short Form, and Form 501, Candidates Intention Statement, notifying the Elections Department of your intention to run for office. You can pick these forms up from the Elections Department, located on the first floor of the Madera County Government Center or you can fill out and print copies from the Political Fair Actions Commission web site at: http://www.fppc.ca.gov/index.html?ID=505
After that, it is just a matter of obtaining 20 signatures of registered Republicans who reside in your district on sets of Nomination Petitions in lieu of paying a filing fee. You must pick up these forms from the Elections Department because they are stamped by a Deputy Registrar of Voters. The form is very much like any other petition you have ever seen and requires the printed name, residence address, and signature of each person and then the person who obtains the signatures (you can ask someone else to help get your signatures) must complete the Affidavit on the second page with his/her signature, date range signatures were obtained, and residence address. There is a notary statement at the end of the Verification but there has been no requirement to sign these forms in front of a notary in the past; however, check this out with the Deputy Registrar when you pick up your forms.
The Candidacy/Nomination period is February 15th through March 12th, meaning that is the period of time you have to gather your signatures and turn them into the Elections Department along with your completed Forms 470 and 501. You should obtain extra signatures over and above the 20 required, depending on how sure you are that the signatures you obtain are valid. Elections Department personnel will review each signatures submitted and will disallow invalid entries, i.e., those not Republicans registered to vote in your district. They recommend 20 extra signatures, but half that many may be more reasonable you are certain that most all your signatures are valid. However, you don’t get a second chance to add signatures should you end up with less than 20 valid ones after the filing deadline on March 12, 2010.
Gathering signatures is much easier than you think! Obtain them from neighbors, friends, family, members of your church or other organizations, or from complete strangers in front of a super market. Once you are satisfied that the person meets the requirements to sign for you, just tell them that you are running for election as a candidate for Central Committee Member (or Regular Elected Member) of the Madera County Central Committee (now known as the Republican Party of Madera County) and as such you will work as a volunteer to help get out the vote on Election Day; that you will participate in voter registration campaigns at various public functions throughout the year; that you will attend regular monthly meetings of the Party; and that you will work at the direction of the Party to help get qualified Republican candidates elected to office. Most people are happy to do sign for you and will let you know they are glad you are willing to help….especially this Election Year!
Goals of the Republican Party of Madera County The purpose of this committee is to register citizens to vote, get qualified Republican candidates elected to office, and to get out the vote on Election Day. We are always looking for volunteers who are willing to roll up their sleeves and pitch in and help us elect Republican candidates to local, state, and national office.
If you have any questions or wish to volunteer or make a donation, please contact us using the Contact Information at the bottom of this page.
